Kitty Pryde.. Had Time Travel Powers? Possible Plot Details Revealed for X-Men: Days Of Future Past

In a recent article posted on Vulture, the site claims to reveal not only several key roles in the film that have been previously only been left to speculation, but also some major plot details that just may leave fans in an uproar.

The first interesting bits are in regards to the casting of  Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and Australian actor Josh Helman. The site goes on to “break the news” that Peter Dinklage is indeed playing Bolivar Trask, who fans know as the creator of the robotic sentinel army that hunts down mutants in the comics, and Josh Helman will be playing a young William Stryker, who fans of the films should recall that he was the main villain of X-Men 2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

And  this is where things get muddy with that casting reveals and the film series’s continuity.

Now we all know that Bryan Singer likes to pick and chose how he follows continuity (looking at your Superman Returns), and the X-Men films haven’t exactly had the most concrete set of continuity (Beast had a human cameo in X-Men 2, but was front and center as a furry mutant in X-Men First Class which was set decades prior, and don’t even get me started on the Emma Frost nonsense from X-Men Origins) for many who don’t realize right off the bat, but both of these characters have been seen before. Obviously Stryker is a dead give away thanks to the references placed above, but he was also in X-Men First Class played by actor Don Creech, who clearly looked significantly older than he did supposedly 20 or so years later in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and played by Danny Huston.

Now we have the rumor that Josh Helman will also be filling this role, making the Danny Huston role seem more believable with continuity but leaving many scratching their heads at the appearance in First Class.

BUT, many are currently speculating that because actor Don Creech was only addressed as “Agent Stryker” in the film, he could be playing William Stryker’s father,  or even William Stryker Sr with the baddie from X-Men 2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and potentially Josh Helman as being named after his father.

There is even a quick moment in the film where Prof. X addresses this difference, “No, Agent Stryker. Although I could ask you about your son, William, who you were thinking about.” While it still doesnt fix the fact that this film will take place in the early 70’s, roughly the same time period as X-Men Origins, making Josh Helman and Danny Huston supposedly the same age, but i guess the less you think about that movie the better.

Then comes Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask. Now most wouldn’t argue that this casting is great, BUT Trask already had an appearance in X-Men: The Last Stand (X-Men 3) played by Bill Duke, who’s not only significantly TALLER than Peter Dinklage, but also African-American.

So there’s that….

Then comes the plot reveal also made by Vulture, which now that it has made its rounds, seems to be causing even more controversy with fans:

Singer may also tease details of the film’s plot, which is based on a 1981 comic-book story line authored by Chris Claremont. That version presented a dystopian future ruled by Sentinels, a setting so grim for our heroes that fan-favorite mutant Kitty Pryde sends her consciousness back in time to warn the X-Men, who then try to stop the assassination of a senator that would set in motion the mutant-threatening events to come. In Singer’s take, Ellen Page returns as Kitty from the Brett Ratner–directed X-Men: The Last Stand, but this time she uses her powers to send Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine back into the past, where he encounters the younger mutants played by James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender. However, something bad happens to Kitty during the time-travel trance, and while Wolverine is still under her spell, the other X-Men must race to find a mutant who can siphon Kitty’s powers and bring their friend back to the future. Could that be the plot development that brings Anna Paquin’s power-copying Rogue into the fold once again?

Yes, Kitty Pryde seems to have somehow turned her power from simply walking through walls to full on time travel. Now  many sites throughout the web are simply chalking this all off to being that Vulture is way off and got some heavy details mixed up, which is entirely possible due to the rumors that the time traveling character Bishop is set to be in the film and hes the one who in fact initiates the whole time travel story line, but it still is leaving many in fear that not only will this X-Men film change up the already heavily confusing continuity, but will be deemed as a travesty to what many believe is one of the greatest stories in X-Men Comics Lore, and what the film is basing itself (and naming itself) on.

Either way, its likely that Comic Con this up coming week will finally shed some light on what is true and what is purely speculation.
